BEFORE:
You can see how dry & cracked the cedar siding is on this side of the house where it gets direct sun light through most of the day. The pain surface that was there had deteriorated to the point of exposing the patching material that had been put on the knots in the lumber prior to the last painting.
Upon removing a section of gutter across an area on the back of the house this is what I found... The gutters were continually filled with leaves and debris and for the most part... unnecissary in that location... but it caused water to back up against the facia bords and kept them wet which attracted termites or some other form of wood destroying organisms (WDO) to gobble up this section of the house.
Here it is again from another angle... pretty bad isn't it?
From the same section of gutter the downspout had seperated from the gutter and what water wasn't ruining the facia board was running down the corner of the house causing similar problems at the base near the soil line. BUT NOT FOR LONG!
DURING:
Repairing facia boards is fairly complicated as it requires the CAREFUL removal of several rows of shingles in order to get to and remove the drip edge prior to removing the facia board, making the repair and putting it all back together including sealing all the shingles once they are reaffixed. In this case that was further complicated by the fact that this piece of facia board ran behind a screen room on the back of the house and I had to very carefully remove the board in such a manner that it wouldn't require me to dismantle the screen room. Just the same it all came out very well.
AFTER:
House is looking nice after repairing the cedar siding. Cedar siding is always the one of the attraction factor for home. It increase the looks and value of the house. If anyone is installing the cedar siding then I suggest to use nailing for long life of cedar siding.
